A method and apparatus for estimating a previously epcoded resolution of a video signal to provide an estimated resolution; and using the estimated resolution to down-sample the video signal to the estimated previously encoded resolution for processing the video signal. The video signal may be a compressed video signal. The method may further comprise transforming the video signal to a transfer domain before down-sampling. The video signal may be up-sampled after processing. The invention avoids degradation in image quality due to upstream horizontal sub-sampling before compression. |
