An apparatus and a method for automatically positioning an image display device are provided to eliminate inconvenience for manual reestablishment of position information whenever a user moves to another place. A method for automatically positioning an image display device comprises the following several steps. If a user inputs a power on instruction, an automatic image display device positioning apparatus displays received image(S200,S210). The automatic image display device positioning apparatus determines whether the second display unit is connected at every cycle(S220). If the second display unit is connected, the apparatus determines whether position is set up, namely whether there exists prestored position setup information at the second display unit(S230). If so, the apparatus sets up position of the second display unit to a position set up by the user on the basis of the position coordinate value(S240). If not, the apparatus sets up the position of the second display unit with a default position(S250).
