An oil dipstick means (100) comprising a tubular plastic dipstick guide (10) with an opening (19) at one end thereof, and a dipstick rod (3) consisting of a rod (31) connected to a sealing member (35) at one end, wherein the dipstick guide (10) comprises a dipstick abutment (2) engageable by an abutment member (33) on the dipstick rod (31) when it is inserted into the guide (10), characterised in that the dipstick abutment is located in the dipstick guide (10) at the opposite end from the opening (19), and the length thereof is such that it extends out of the dipstick guide (10) when the abutment member (33) of the dipstick rod (31) is in engagement with the dipstick abutment.
