A microfluidic assembly comprises a planar substrate (36) having a least a first surface with open microchannel structure(s) (39); and a lid forming sheet material (34) attached with a first surface to the first surface of the planar substrate. The lid forming sheet material is covering a portion of the microchannel structure, and has a first region with a first rigidity and a second region with a second rigidity. The second region comprises layer(s) of material attached on top of a second surface opposite to the first surface of the lid forming sheet material. The second region is cured. The lid forming sheet material is made of a different material than the planar substrate. The lid forming sheet material is attached to the planar substrate by hot glue.
