A display apparatus and a driving method thereof are provided to reduce power consumption by displaying gray scale images through the swing of common voltages. A display apparatus includes an electro-phoretic panel(100) and a driver(200). The electro-phoretic panel includes a lower substrate having pixel electrodes, an upper substrate having common electrodes opposite to the pixel electrodes, and plural micro capsules which are formed between the pixel and common electrodes and have ink particles with negative and positive charges. The driver displays white images to the electro-phoretic panel in a first driving mode and displays gray scale images to the electro-phoretic panel in a second driving mode.
