A method and apparatus for setting the user environment of a car (100,102) by using a portable terminal (102) are provided. The method includes, when user environment data are received from the car (100,102), storing the received user environment data in a storage unit of the portable terminal (102); and transmitting the stored user environment data to the car (100,102) when a user environment data transmission event occurs.
