<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of manufacturing an optical module that still has a desired performance as well as high reliability even after miniaturization, and to provide an apparatus for manufacturing the optical module. <P>SOLUTION: The optical module manufacturing method comprises: a mounting step of mounting an optical element package having a plurality of terminals and a planar upper surface on a substrate having a plurality of terminal pads and a plurality of landing pads on the surface thereof by applying a solder material to the terminal pads and by using the landing pads in such a manner that the upper surface is substantially in parallel with the substrate surface and a gap is formed between the bottom surface of the optical element package and the substrate surface; and a step of preliminarily heating the landing pads to melt the solder material while simultaneously mounting the optical element package, and subsequently curing the solder material to electrically connect the terminal pads and terminals corresponding to the optical element package. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT</p> |
