PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing a magnetic recording medium capable of enhancing impact resistance while maintaining a high coercive force Hc and reverse magnetic domain nucleus forming a magnetic field Hn. SOLUTION: In the method for manufacturing the magnetic recording medium of a vertical magnetic recording system provided with at least a first magnetic recording layer 5 and a second magnetic recording layer 6 on a desk base 1, The first magnetic recording layer 5 and the second magnetic recording layer 6 are ferromagnetic layers of granular structures each provided with a non-magnetic region for forming a grain boundary between crystal particles among continuously grown crystal particles. The first magnetic recording layer on the disk base 1 side is deposited by using a sputtering method by the atmosphere gaseous pressure of high pressure and the second magnetic recording layer formed apart from the disk base 1 is deposited by using a sputtering method by the atmosphere gaseous pressure of low pressure.
