PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a battery residual capacity detection device capable of improving recording speed, increasing the number of printable sheets, and detecting a battery residual capacity by using a motor other than a stepping motor, when detecting the battery residual capacity. SOLUTION: This battery residual capacity detection device in a battery-drivable recording device has an output voltage measuring means for measuring an output voltage in an operation other than operations for detecting the battery residual capacity in the recording device. The battery residual capacity detection device has a battery residual capacity detection means for detecting the battery residual capacity based on the output voltage measured by the output voltage measuring means.
