The damper (10) has a cylindrical operating tube (12) and an operating chamber (16) filled with a damping medium (14). A stamp (20) is movably arranged in the axial direction and is controlled by a piston rod (18). The damping medium is formed as granules comprising ball-shaped particles. An annular gap (22) is formed between the stamp and the operating tube. The gap is dimensioned such that the particles are displaced through the gap in the axial direction, during movement of the stamp. An independent claim is also included for a swivelable linkage of a lid or a cover in a motor vehicle.
