PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vending machine which is capable of reducing maintenance and management costs required for illumination of commodity samples in a commodity exhibition chamber, does not miss selling opportunities unnecessarily and is capable of making a certain commodity sample among the commodity samples in the commodity exhibition chamber effectively highlighted. SOLUTION: Lighting devices L1 to L6 are lit to emit a very small quantity of light till a user is detected by a human sensor 40, and the lighting devices L1 to L6 are lit to emit a larger quantity of light when the user is detected in the front side of a commodity exhibition chamber 30 by the human sensor 40, so that unnecessary power consumption of respective lighting devices L1 to L6 is avoided till approach of the user and a selling opportunity is not missed. When the sixth lighting device L6 is operated so as to be different from first to fifth lighting devices L1 to L5, a commodity sample A illuminated by the sixth lighting device L6 is highlighted effectively.
