PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To inhibit increase in the manufacturing cost, and transmit positional information on a position detected apparatus from a position detecting apparatus to the position detected apparatus. SOLUTION: A position detecting system is provided with the position detected apparatus 1, having an ultrasonic wave transmitting section 11 mounted to a movable body to be positioned; the position detecting apparatus 2, having an ultrasonic wave receiving section 21 for receiving ultrasonic waves transmitted from the ultrasonic wave transmitting section 11. The position detecting apparatus 2 has a transmission section 22 for transmitting a trigger signal. The position detected apparatus 1 has a receiving section 15 for receiving the trigger signal, and a control section 17 for instructing the ultrasonic wave transmitting section 11 to transmit the ultrasonic waves, when the receiving section 15 receives the trigger signal. The position detecting apparatus 2 has a position calculating section 25 for obtaining a position of the position detected apparatus 1 relative to the position detecting apparatus 2, and a control section 27 for transmitting relative position information, obtained by the position calculating section 25 from the transmission section 22 to the receiving section 15.
