The method involves subjecting a circulating belt (3) with a cleaning jet from a high pressure cleaning device (5) transverse to a running direction (L) of the belt. The belt is subjected with an auxiliary jet (8) from an auxiliary device (6) for impregnation and/or conditioning of the belt (3). Side edges (3a) of the belt (3) are subjected more strongly than remaining areas of the belt with the auxiliary jet. A chemical conditioning agent and an impregnating agent are provided in the auxiliary beam. An independent claim is also included for a device for performing a cleaning method.
