APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR TRACKING GESTURE

A gesture tracking apparatus and method are provided to avoid tracking of a body part of a user such as user's eyes in tracking a particular body part of the user by using laser. A location checking unit(220) checks a location of a user included in an inputted image. A target tracking unit(240) tracks the first body part of the user. The location checking unit checks the location of the user by using image processing. The target tracking unit includes a laser generating unit for generating laser, a laser controller for checking the position of the first body part existing in a particular region based on the user by using laser scanning, a path changing unit for changing an irradiation path of the laser to irradiate the first body part, a light receiving unit for receiving diffused light of laser irradiated to the first body part, and a locus measurement unit for measuring a gesture locus of the first body part with reference to the strength of the received light and the changed irradiation path.
