PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image management device, a camera on which the image management device is loaded, an image management method and a program for simplifying image retrieval by performing the rationalization of the number of images to be classified and the efficient display of the classified images. SOLUTION: Photographic images are classified based on a photographic theme, and thumb-nail images are displayed in a batch for every classification. Then, theme start marks Is1 and Is2 shown by the start of a theme image are inserted into the beginning of the classified images. The theme start marks may include symbol images concretely showing theme content. Also, the marks may be inserted and displayed as theme end marks at the end of the classified images. Also, the theme start marks are switched from division marks showing the division of the themes to representative marks Is4 and Is5 according to the selection of a user. When the theme start marks are switched to the representative marks, only the representative marks are displayed, and all thumb nail images belonging to the classification are non-displayed.
