PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress the cost of a DVD recorder by making a storage section hold a character code conversion table which does not largely consume a storage capacity of the storage section, in the DVD recorder. SOLUTION: In order to make a monitor display a character, the storage section 6 holds the conversion table 5 in which only a character code after conversion is stored. In the conversion table 5, an SJIS code "8261" after conversion is stored in an address of an address number to which the same value as a UTF-16BE code "FF21" before conversion is imparted. A control section 7 refers the address of the address number "FF21" of the conversion table 5 when the UTF-16BE code "FF21" is code-converted, and the code conversion is carried out by acquiring the SJIS code "8261". Thus, since only the SJIS code after conversion is held by the conversion table 5 and also the consumption of the capacity of the storage section 6 can be reduced, the cost of the DVD recorder can be suppressed.
