PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a novel vinylethynylarylcarboxylic acid compound useful as an intermediate for pharmaceuticals and agrichemicals and as a raw material for functional materials such as liquid crystal and electronic materials and high-durability resins, to provide a production method capable of stably obtaining the compound in a high-purity form, and to provide a thermally crosslinkable compound made from the compound. SOLUTION: The benzotriazole compound is represented by formula (I). In formula (I), R11to R19are each independently a hydrogen atom or a substituent; provided that at least one of them is a substituent represented by formula (II), and the total number of carbon atoms constituting the substituents other than the substituent represented by formula (II) is 8 or larger.
