<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce data encrypting time and decrypting time. <P>SOLUTION: A storage 10 starts read of unencrypted data in a predetermined volume from a disk drive 50 to an encryption conversion buffer 14b on reception of an encrypting request for the predetermined volume from a managing apparatus 40. The storage 10 then makes unencrypted data redundant, and encrypts and converts the unencrypted data to predetermined encrypted data. Specifically, the storage 10 duplicates the unencrypted data in the encryption conversion buffer 14b to an encryption conversion buffer 24b in a CM 1, encrypts and converts the unencrypted data to predetermined encrypted data, and passes the encrypted and converted data to an encryption buffer 14a.
