PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To appropriately correct a red-eye effect which occurs in stroboscopic photography. SOLUTION: The imaging apparatus comprises: a face detection part for detecting a face area from an image; a red eye area detection part for detecting a red eye area from the face area detected by the face detection part; a red eye correction part for performing red eye correction processing of correcting the red eye area detected by the red eye area detection part; and a control part for controlling the red eye area detection part so that the probability of detection as the red eye area becomes lower in a first red eye correction mode of performing the red eye correction processing to a photographed image than in a second red eye correction mode of reading an already recorded image and performing the red eye correction processing.
