PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for raising an existing breakwater, which can increase a breakwater effect against a tsunami and high tide while maintaining the stability of the dam body of the existing breakwater. SOLUTION: A front upper portion of the dam body of the existing breakwater with an upright front surface is obliquely cut and removed, so that a front inclined surface 15 of the dam body, the upside of which is inclined to the rear side of a levee crown, can be formed. A raised portion 17 with weight and height, which do not deteriorate the stability of the dam body, is installed on the levee crown surface of the dam body 12 of the existing breakwater in state of being put to the side of the rear surface of the dam body. Preferably, a removed member 16, which is cut and removed in the formation of the front inclined surface 15 of the dam body, is stacked on the levee crown surface of the breakwater in such a manner that its cut surface is directed to a front side.
