PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a highly heat resistant composite material excellent in specific stiffness/specific strength while using carbon fibers and by making an epoxy resin composition obtained by using an alkali metal salt of a carboxylic acid as an anionic polymerization initiator, as a matrix. SOLUTION: This method for producing the carbon fiber-reinforced composite material comprises (1) a process of immersing a carbon fiber substrate material treated with a sizing agent containing a carboxyl group, in an alkali metal hydroxide solution, (2) a process of impregnating a polymerizable composition consisting of a≥2 functional epoxy compound and a polymerization initiator consisting of an alkali metal salt of a carboxylic acid, with the carbon fiber substrate material treated with the above process, and then (3) a process of heating for curing the polymerizable composition to obtain the composite material.
