PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compact high-performance zoom lens having a vibration isolation function, and optical equipment with the zoom lens mounted thereon. SOLUTION: The zoom lens 2 has a first lens group G1 having negative refractive power and a second lens group G2 having positive refractive power in order from an object side along an optical axis. When varying power from a wide angle end state W to a telephoto end state T, the first lens group and the second lens group are moved along the optical axis. The second lens group is constituted of a front group G2a having positive refractive power and a rear group G2b having positive refractive power in order from the object side. The zoom lens 2 has the vibration isolation function to correct the displacement of image-forming position due to shake by displacing the rear group in a perpendicular direction to the optical axis, and satisfies a predetermined condition.
