A weatherstrip, preferably an outer belt assembly (40) is provided for use on an automotive vehicle (20) having an associated mounting flange (42). The weatherstrip includes a body (50) having first and second legs (52a, 52b) dimensioned for receipt over the mounting flange. A retaining leg (54) extends from the body and is dimensioned for receipt with an associated engaging portion (44a) of the automotive vehicle. The retaining leg is joined to the body by a living hinge (80) of flexible material different from the polymer body to permit flexing of the retaining leg upon insertion of the body onto the mounting flange. In one embodiment, the living hinge extends across the entirety of the cross-section of the interface between the retaining leg and the body. In a second embodiment, the living hinge extends over a major portion of the cross-section. |
