PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a display device in which miniaturization of the device as a whole can be achieved by reducing a sealing portion. SOLUTION: The display device includes: a display element 2 having a display layer 7 where microcapsules 9 are spread between a transparent surface electrode layer 5 and a back electrode layer 6; a transparent surface protective film 3 disposed on the upper face of the surface electrode layer 5; and a back protective film 4 disposed on the lower face of the back electrode layer 6, wherein the surface protective film 3 is extended sideway from an end face of the display element 2, and the extended surface protective film 3 is folded along the end face of the display element 2, the folded top end 3a is further folded and joined to the backside of the back protective film 4. Therefore, the display layer 7 is reliably sealed by the folded surface protective film 3 and is reliably protected from moisture. As the sealing portion 18 at the end of the display element 2 is formed almost equal in size to the thickness of the surface protective film 3, the sealing portion 18 is formed smaller in size and the whole device can be miniaturized even when a display region is formed in a given size.
