<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a key cylinder device facilitating recognition of erroneous insertion of an unusual key in a key insertion hole. <P>SOLUTION: In the key cylinder device 10, when the unusual key is inserted in the key insertion hole 30, at least one tumbler plate 54 is engaged with engaged parts 38, 40 of the unusual key and held in an intermediate position between a latch position and a release position or prevents the insertion of an insert part 36 into the key insertion hole 30. When the at least one tumbler plate 54 is held in the intermediate position between the latch position and the release position by the insert part 36 of the unusual key inserted in the key insertion hole 30, a locking recess 66 locks the tumbler plate 54 and prevents the rotation of a rotor 22 from a lock position to an ACC position. Consequently, even if an operator transmits torque to the rotor 22 through the unusual key, the rotor 22 is not rotated from the lock position to the ACC position.
