PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the rolled material of a magnesium alloy having an insoluble second phase useful for the improvement of strength, heat resistance or the like, and free from the generation of cracks caused by the insoluble second phase upon rolling, and to provide a method for producing the same. SOLUTION: Regarding the rolled material of a magnesium alloy comprising a matrix phase essentially consisting of Mg and a granular insoluble second phase, in the cross-section observed from its metallic structure, the size of the granular insoluble second phase is≤3μm, and also, its aspect ratio is≤2.0. Further, the method for producing the rolled material of a magnesium alloy comprising a matrix phase essentially consisting of Mg and an insoluble second phase includes: a stage where a material comprising an insoluble second phase is prepared; a parting stage where the insoluble second layer is parted; and a rolling stage where the material comprising the parted insoluble second phase is heated and rolled.
