The method involves assigning a unique address to a subscriber on a bus, where the subscriber performs a communication receiving process. Determination is made whether another subscriber with a high priority performs the process in a preset period, which has time segments. An identification part is transmitted from the former subscriber, and a signal adjacent to the channel is detected. The former subscriber continues with another identification part in the other segment, when the signal accords with the part, and transmission of usable data is begun after sending complete identification part. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a device for bus arbitration (2) a converter comprising a unit for transmitting and receiving data (3) a manufacturing installation comprising drive units.
