PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ethylene-α-olefin copolymer excellent in moldability and low smoking properties at the melt processing, and a food packaging material comprising the copolymer. SOLUTION: This ethylene-α-olefin copolymer has a monomer unit based on ethylene and a monomer unit based on 3-20Cα-olefin, a melt flow rate (MFR; unit of g/10 min) of 0.01-100 g/10 min and density (d; unit of kg/m<SP>3</SP>) of 890-970 kg/m<SP>3</SP>, and satisfies the followings: the activation energy (Ea) of flow of≥50 kJ/mol; a molecular weight distribution (Mw/Mn) measured by the gel permeation chromatography of≥3 and the hexane extract (C; unit of wt.%) of≤2.8%.
