The method involves engaging a steering rack (4) with a steering pinion (3), and applying a preset torque around a longitudinal axis of the steering rack and at an end of the steering rack. A twist angle is measured at the steering rack, and a plunger fixture is deduced from dimensions of the twist angle. The pressure piece plate is determined from a linear function of the twist angle. The twist angle is determined by a defined stroke of the steering rack.
