PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent jamming from occurring in sheets fed in initialization. SOLUTION: The sheet handling device 300 comprises a protection retreat path 292 for retreating conveyed sheets, a stapler 254 for handling the sheets, and a reversing flapper 290 for selectively guiding the sheets to the protection retreat path 292 and the stapler 254.
