PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new phenanthroline derivative lithium complex which enables the driving of elements at low voltage and is useful for providing high efficient elements; to provide an electron transport material comprising the same; to provide an electron injection material; and to provide an organic electroluminescence element containing the same. SOLUTION: This phenanthroline derivative represented by general formula (1) (Q is a 1-6C alkyl or a group selected from the group consisting of phenyl, naphthyl, anthracenyl, phenanthrenyl, pyridyl, pyridazyl, pyrimidinyl, pyrazyl, and quinolyl groups, and having zero to two of 1-3C alkyl groups; R<SP>1</SP>to R<SP>3</SP>are each a group selected from the group consisting of hydrogen and a 1-6C alkyl group).
