PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress the use of authentication devices highly likely to be used for unauthorized purposes. SOLUTION: A digital multifunction machine 1 functions also as an authentication apparatus for deciding whether or not to approve an authentication request from an authentication device 905 and can be used only when the authentication is successful. When the authentication fails, if the serial number of the authentication device 905 is not registered in a table 1235 and a memory area 9051 can be accessed, the digital multifunction machine 1 regards that the authentication device 905 is highly likely to be used for unauthorized purposes, and writes an "NG word" to the memory area 9051 or otherwise to prevent the use of the authentication device 905.
