PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a nonwoven fabric hardly causing fluff loss and producible economically, and to provide a method for efficiently producing the same. SOLUTION: The nonwoven fabric includes a cellulosic fiber and a thermofusible fiber with at least part of its surface formed of an ethylene-acrylic acid-based copolymer, wherein the constituent fibers have been mutually entangled owing to high-pressure water jet treatment and the thermofusible fiber and the cellulosic fiber are mutually thermofused. The method for producing the nonwoven fabric includes the following process: A fiber web is formed by a carding machine with the cellulosic fiber and the thermofusible fiber as raw materials, and then subjected to the high-pressure water jet treatment to entangle the constituent fibers with each other to obtain a fiber sheet, which is then heat-treated to effect thermofusing the constituent fibers together.
