PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polyester resin for optical use that has excellent moldability as well as low photoelastic coefficient and high heat resistance, and that is, to provide the polyester resin for optical use that has both excellent drawability and phase difference development as well as low photoelastic coefficient and high heat resistance when applied, for example, for a phase difference film for liquid crystal display. SOLUTION: The polyester resin for optical use is a polyester having a cyclic ether structure and a fluorene derivative as a diol component, and the relaxation time CT1ρof aromatic carbon of nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) is not larger than 50 msec.
