PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize a detergent that hardly causes a surfactant to remain in an item to be washed and therefore is hardly restricted in items to be washed to which the detergent is applied. SOLUTION: The detergent comprises water, from which a polyvalent cation is removed and to which a sodium ion is added, and a surfactant, where the surfactant is, for example, a fatty acid salt. When the detergent is applied to an item to be washed, soil adhering to the item to be washed is removed from the item to be washed by actions of the surfactant. The surfactant hardly remains in the item to be washed owing to actions of water, from which a polyvalent cation is removed and to which a sodium ion is added. Thus, the detergent can effectively wash a wide range of items to be washed such as a kitchen, tableware, foods, a washstand, a bathroom, a toilet, vehicles, clothing and the skin of the body without spoiling texture or causing deterioration.
