<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a power unit which can be reduced in size, without the occurrence of the problems of vibration, noise, and exhaust gas and can reduce the loss of power, and can cut down its manufacture cost, and is rechargeable from a power source for automobile, even in situations where commercial power blacks out or is unavailable for a long period. <P>SOLUTION: The power unit 1 has a commercial power input part 2, which is connected to a commercial power source and to which AC voltage is to be inputted, a DC power input part 3, which is connected to a DC power source and to which DC voltage is to be inputted, a power output part 4 which outputs AC voltage, a secondary battery 5, a charger 6 (charge means) which charges a secondary battery 5 by the AC voltage of the commercial power source, and an inverter 7 which converts the DC voltage outputted from the secondary battery 5 into AC voltage for commercial power source.
