PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sheet stacking device capable of correctly recognizing the index portion of an index sheet even when rectangular sheets and the index sheets are stacked, and easy to use for a user. SOLUTION: The sheet stacking device comprises a stack tray 301, a carrying roller R carrying the sheet on the tray 301, a stopper 303 regulating a position of a tip end in a sheet carrying direction on the tray 301 and movable in the sheet carrying direction, and a stopper controlling portion 718 controlling the positional movement in the sheet carrying direction of the stopper 303. In case that the rectangular sheets Sh and the index sheets Si having length in a carrying direction longer than the rectangular sheets Sh are stacked on the tray 301, when regulating a tip end position of the rectangular sheets Sh, the stopper 303 is moved to a position same as a position for regulating the tip end position of the index sheets Si.
