PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for preheating a nozzle for pouring molten steel by which the service life of the nozzle can more drastically be improved than heretofore, a product yield can be improved and refractory cost can be reduced. SOLUTION: In the method for preheating the nozzle 12 for pouring the molten steel, which is composed of the refractory containing≥5 mass% carbon, in which a passage 10 for allowing the molten steel to flow is formed in the inner part and a fitting 11 to be installed into a continuous casting facility is provided at the base side and through which the molten steel is allowed to flow into a passage 10 after being preheated when being used, a part or the whole of the surface of the nozzle 12 is coated with an oxidizing-preventive material 17 of≥0.1 mm thickness, then a part or the whole of the surface of the nozzle 12 is covered with a heat-insulating material 18-20, and at least the portion covered with the oxidizing-preventive material 17 on the nozzle 12 is surrounded with a chamber 21, and the nozzle 12 is preheated under atmosphere controlled to be≤10 vol.% oxygen concentration by blowing non-oxidizing gas in the chamber 21.
