In order to feed animals, preferably pigs, where the feeding is arranged such that the pigs are fed ad lib. when they have a weight which is below a certain, given value, while they are fed restrictively when they are above the given weight, the invention provides a method and a feed dosing system composed of a plurality of feed dosing units (9, 9A), which are connected with a plurality of feed bowls (15) and a plurality of long cribs (16), said feed bowls and said long cribs being built together as a common long trough (15, 16), with vertically extending (11, 19) and inclined (12, 13, 12A, 13A) pipes connected longitudinally of the long trough. The locations where the thick, vertically extending pipes (11 ) are connected with the long trough, are used for ad lib. feeding, while the places where the thin, vertically extending (19) and inclined (12, 13, 12A, 13A) pipes are connected with the long trough, are used for restrictive feeding. It is ensured in this manner that all pigs, also the "weak" ones, receive sufficient feed during the restrictive feeding, as "fights" between the pigs be- cause of restricted space and thereby access to the feed are eliminated. For uniform distribution of dry feed to the long cribs, distributor units (18) are connected between the inclined pipes and the long trough, said distributor units in a first embodiment being provided with two compartments which are separated by a partition wall (21), and being configured in other embodiments as a rotatable pipe with holes, with collection magazines optionally arranged at some of the holes. |
