A monitoring apparatus for a vehicle is provided to improve the stability and reliability by allowing an LCD monitor to be coupled with a case through rails. A monitoring apparatus for a vehicle comprises a case(10) installed in a shelf mounted at the lateral side of an interior roof of a vehicle. An LCD monitor(20) is assembled with the case such that the LCD monitor laterally slides through a coupling/guiding device(30). As the LCD monitor slides, the LCD monitor is received in the case or withdrawn from the case. A position detector(50) is installed on the case to detect the position of the LCD monitor. A controller outputs a control signal based on a signal, which is generated through manipulation of an operation switch by a user, and a signal of the position detector, so that the LCD monitor is received in the case or withdrawn from the case. A transfer device(40) allow the LCD monitor to laterally slide according to the control signal of the controller.
