METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR DECODING METADATA USED FOR PLAYING STEREOSCOPIC CONTENTS

A method and an apparatus for decoding meta data used in the reproduction of the stereoscopic contents are provided to reproduce the stereoscopic images and moving pictures stored on the basis of the MPEG(Moving Picture Experts Group)-4 system smoothly. A receiving part(310) receives a bit stream including a header having meta data for reproducing stereoscopic contents, encoded main media data and additional media data. A demodulating part demodulates the received bit stream and transmits the demodulated meta data and the media data to a contents producing part(330). A viewing mode selection part(320) provides an opportunity to a user for selecting a mode between 2D or 3D on the basis of the meta data. The contents producing part produces the contents suitable for a display panel of a player as an example of a de-modulating device by the user's input inputted from the de-modulated data and the viewing mode selection part. A display part(340) receives and reproduces the image outputted from the contents producing part.
