A prefabricated unit for use in roof construction comprises a member I, which may be of metal, wood, plastic material, fibre glass or cement, having mounted on, and projecting beyond two adjacent edges of the upper surface of the member 1, strips 4, 5 of rubber material, e.g. vulcanized butyl rubber or neoprene, each strip having on its projecting undersurface an adhesive material, e.g. butyl rubber. The strips 4, 5 may be separate members attached to the member 1 by butyl rubber adhesive 3, or may form part of a single vulcanized rubber sheet 2, as shown. Adhesive layers are located on the upper surface of the unit at the two edges which do not carry the strips 4, 5. The adhesive surfaces on the strips 4, 5 (and on the unit 1) may be covered by removable paper strips 6. Alternatively, the sheet 2 with its adhesive layer 3 and a removable paper sheet thereon, may form a laminate for application to the member 1 on the site. In an example, a corrugated cement concrete member to which is riveted a flat asbestos sheet forms the member 1, and a sheet 2 of vulcanized rubber is secured by adhesive 3 to the member 1. Removable paper strips 6 are secured to the adhesive on the lower surfaces of the strips 4, 5 and on the upper surface of the unit 1. The butyl rubber adhesive layers may comprise an inner layer of vulcanized material sandwiched between two unvulcanized layers.
