An AVN(Audio Video Navigation) system having a power controlling function based on motion sensing and a method for controlling power are provided to turn on and off the power automatically by sensing a motion. An AVN system includes a motion sensing unit(101) and an AVN processing unit(102). The motion sensing unit outputs a detection signal by sensing a motion. The AVN processing unit which is turned on and off in response to the detection signal, executes one of replay operations, guidance operations, and the output of broadcasting signals according to the turn-on. The motion sensing unit includes a photo reflector which radiates a beam to a region, receives beams reflected from an object when the object is in the region, and outputs the sensed signal, or an ultrasonic sensor which senses the motion of the object and outputs the sensed signal. The AVN processing unit includes an AV unit(120) and a navigation controller(140). The AV unit is turned off after outputting a sense confirming signal, or outputs the sense confirming signal after the turn-on when receiving the sensed signal.
