A message management method using keywords in a portable terminal is provided to enable a user to manage messages according to each keyword, therefore the user can easily manage the messages in a desired method while the user can easily manage particular messages through keywords when the particular messages stored in the terminal are managed. A controller confirms a received message(S211), and selects a message management method(S213). The controller calls a message list to display the called message list on a display unit(S215), and receives a message selection signal for registering keywords(S217). The controller confirms the selected message(S219), and displays a keyword registration method on the display unit(S221). The controller displays an input window for inputting the keywords(S223), and receives a keyword input signal(S225). The controller displays the inputted keywords and the message on the display unit(S227).
