An apparatus and a method for transmitting signals in a communication system are provided to ensure the stable operation of a PA(Power Amplifier) by controlling the input signal power of the PA. An apparatus for transmitting signals in a communication system comprises a PA(223), a signal power detector(225), a signal power attenuation part(215), and a controller(200). The PA executes power amplification for signals. The signal power detector detects the output signal power of the PA in the form of an output signal voltage. The signal power attenuation part, which includes a signal power attenuator(217) and a signal power attenuation controller(219), attenuates the power level of a signal inputted to the PA. In case the detected output signal voltage exceeds a preset normal output signal voltage, the controller controls the signal power attenuation part so as to attenuate the power level of a signal inputted to the PA as much as the first power level. Then, if an output signal voltage redetected through the signal power detector exceeds the normal output signal voltage, the controller stops the PA.
