A system and a method for changing the user interface of a message service client are provided to offer various screen and audio environments to a user in executing message arrival announcement or message display by downloading various character contents from a service server and changing the user interface of a message service client into desired character contents. A system for changing the user interface of a message service client comprises a communication terminal(100), a base station(200), a base station controller(300), an exchange(400), a PSDN(Packet Switched Data Network), a multimedia sever(800), a production sever(900), a service server(700), and an IP(Internet Protocol) backbone network(600). The service server comprises a database and a character service part. The database stores character contents including images, audios, and texts. The character service part provides a list of the character contents stored in the database. If certain character contents are selected, the character service part provides the selected character contents. The communication terminal comprises a character downloader, a character loader, an interface converter, and a message service client. The character downloader downloads character contents from the service server. The character loader extracts image, audio, and text resources from the downloaded character contents. The interface converter establishes the extracted resources as resources for the user interface of the message service client. Using the established resources, the message service client outputs a screen in executing message display or message arrival notification.
