A scanning device and a shading correction method thereof are provided to improve the quality of a scanning image by determining whether a foreign material is attached on a white reference sheet, and inform a user of a position of the foreign material by detecting the position of the attached foreign material. A scanning head(140) scans the white reference sheet(131) by dividing the white reference sheet into a plurality of lines and obtains shading data of each line. A storing part(160) stores the shading data corresponding to each line. A controller(180) calculates a minimum value and a maximum value by comparing the shading data corresponding to the each line based on a pixel of the same position, and enables a display unit(120) to display an error message when a difference between the minimum value and the maximum value is bigger than a reference range. The error message represents that a foreign material is attached on the white reference sheet and displays the position of the foreign material attached on the white reference sheet.
