A pen type optical mouse is provided to enable a user to perform work with feeling like a real pen by minimizing a moving distance of a tip restored to the inside of a body, prevent breakage of components by preventing intensive force applied in a moment, and perform correct writing by precisely extracting moving coordinates of the tip. A part of a first plunger(31) is inserted into a front part of a pen type body(10) and a tip touching a bottom side is installed to a front end of the first plunger. An optical part includes an LED(Light Emitting Diode) emitting light to the bottom side, an imaging lens collecting the light reflected on the bottom side, and an image sensor detecting the light received from the imaging lens and converting the detected light into an electric signal. A microcomputer reads a moving direction and distance of the tip by using the electric signal output from the image sensor, and transmits the read moving direction and distance to a computer. The first plunger is elastically fixed in the body. A first displacement restricting part(61a,61b) for restricting displacement of the first plunger moved in the body is installed between an outer side of the first plunger and an inner wall of the body facing with the first plunger.
