A plasma display apparatus and a driving method thereof are provided to utilize priming particles formed in a sustain period, during an address period by implementing the address period between sustain periods. Row electrodes are divided into row electrodes of first and second row groups(G1,G2). The row electrodes of first and second row groups are divided into first and second sub-groups(G11-G16,G21-G26). In first sub-fields, non-light emitting cells among light emitting cells of the first and second row groups are selected during first and third periods, respectively. Light emitting cells of the first and second row groups are sustain-discharged during second and fourth periods, respectively. In another first sub-fields, non-light emitting cells among light emitting cells of the first and second sub-groups are selected during fifth and sixth periods on first and second groups, respectively. Light emitting cells of the second and first sub-groups among the second sub-groups are sustain-discharged.
