A GPS terminal and a power saving method thereof are provided to elongate a duration of a battery by disconnecting a current while an actual moving path of a user is congruent with a straight path between source and destination positions. A GPS(Global Positioning System) terminal includes a power supply unit(3), a GPS module(2), and a microprocessor(1). The GPS module directly receives power from the power supply unit and calculates a travel distance of a GPS terminal user. The microprocessor separately receives power from the power supply. The microprocessor is switched into a power saving mode, after a current position of the unit is measured. When the user travels over a predetermined range, the GPS module outputs a wake up signal to the microprocessor, so that the microprocessor operates at a full power mode.
